For Small Charity Week, we’re shining a light on some of the unsung heroes of Glaucoma UK.
As the country’s only dedicated glaucoma charity, we provide support across the length of the UK. We couldn’t do it without a tight-knit team of dedicated individuals who are passionate about glaucoma care and ending preventable sight loss.
In this short series, we introduce you to our four regional Development Managers who work closely with organisations and professionals in their area to ensure people with glaucoma get the information and advice they need.
Today’s article focuses on Melanie Peters, Development Manager for Wales and Northern Ireland.
I live in South Wales, specifically in Gavin and Stacey land on Barry Island. I have two large dogs, six cats, two tortoises and two goldfish. I enjoy long walks and when I can muster up the courage, cold water swimming.
I was originally a nurse, then went into research. I have managed projects and written modules for accredited health care modules.
It’s amazing that today, people still know so little about glaucoma. Getting your eyes tested regularly can literally save the sight of someone at risk. If we can get that message out we can prevent people from losing their sight.
No two days are the same and we get to meet all sorts of interesting people.
