Trabeculectomy is a form of eye surgery for glaucoma.
Your eye doctor is most likely to suggest trabeculectomy if your eye pressure is still too high after other more common treatments such as eye drops or laser treatment.
The booklet describes what trabeculectomy is, what to expect before, during and after surgery, and the risks and benefits.
This booklet is for people who are having, or have had, trabeculectomy surgery.
Note that a few treatments for glaucoma include words with the letters ‘trab’, and it’s easy to get them confused. One is a common laser treatment called Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). If you’re unsure which treatment you’re having, please check with your eye doctor or call our helpline on 01233 648 170 before reading this booklet.
