Anthony’s story

Diagnosed with glaucoma during a routine eye test in August 2020, Anthony found reassurance in the excellent care he received and now urges others, especially his daughters, to prioritise regular eye tests. Discovering Glaucoma UK through his own research, he values their supportive resources and advises those newly diagnosed to seek help, and never miss a dose of prescribed treatment.

Early detection of glaucoma is crucial, so make sure to attend regular eye appointments with your optician or optometrist.

In August 2020, during a routine eye test, Anthony was diagnosed with glaucoma. He was very worried, especially when the optician mentioned she would refer him to an eye clinic. Even before seeing a specialist, Anthony knew that glaucoma is an eye disease that, if left untreated, could lead to sight loss. Despite being diagnosed during the pandemic, he felt he received excellent care from both his optician and consultant.  

With a family history of glaucoma, Anthony ensures his daughters understand the importance of regular eye tests. He advises, “Early detection of glaucoma is crucial, so make sure to attend regular eye appointments with your optician or optometrist.” 

Anthony discovered Glaucoma UK and its services by researching the disease online. He shared that it’s reassuring to know there is support available when he needs it. 

As for Glaucoma UK’s resources, Anthony finds the Insight magazine, digital support groups, and the Focus newsletter to be extremely informative and helpful.  

To those newly diagnosed with glaucoma, he offers this advice: “Try not to worry too much. First class help is available and if you’re prescribed eye drops, make sure to use them regularly – never miss a dose.”
