About Us

Over 700,000 people in the UK have glaucoma. Half of them don’t know they have it.  At Glaucoma UK we want to end needless glaucoma sight loss.

We campaign to raise awareness so glaucoma is detected early and can be treated, we support people to live well with glaucoma and we fund sight saving research

Who are we?

We’re a membership charity and are passionate about making sure that people living with glaucoma have a say in how and where their care and treatment is delivered. We provide a host of support services to help people at all stages of their glaucoma journey, but we’re also here for the professionals too – providing support and resources and helping them keep in touch with what matters most to people with glaucoma.

You can read more about the breadth of our work and the impact that it has here.

You can also read about the people who make Glaucoma UK what it is under ‘Meet the team,’ and if you’d like to join us you can find our latest vacancies here.

And if you have a press or media enquiry, you’ll find everything you need here.

The Money

As a charity we are reliant on the kindness and generosity of our supporters to provide our services.

The charity has a turnover of around £1.2m and over 70% of our income comes from gifts left by supporters in their will.

This is how we spent our funds last year:

Infographic shows charitable spending for the year 2018 - 2019: Patient Support & Information 58.5%, Research 31.2%, Support for professionals 7.1%, Campaigning & Advocacy 3.2%
You can find full details of our finances in our latest accounts. In 2020 we took on the new operating name of Glaucoma UK to enable us to reach more people. Before the change we were known as The International Glaucoma Association (still our registered charity name), so that’s the name you’ll see on last year’s accounts!
