Research changes lives. By funding and supporting research into all aspects of glaucoma, we hope to accelerate our journey to a world without glaucoma sight loss.
How do we fund and support research?
We have a rigorous award process for grants that investigate all aspects of glaucoma. We also make it possible for more people to specialise in glaucoma research by funding positions such as PhDs and research fellowships.

How can I get involved in research?
If research is going to improve the lives of people living with glaucoma, it’s crucial their voices are heard throughout the planning, delivery and sharing of that research.
If you are affected by glaucoma, there are lots of ways to get involved in research. For example, you can
- take part directly,
- help us decide which research to fund,
- work with researchers to help them design and deliver their projects.
What difference has our research made?
We’re proud of the track record of our research. Thanks to your support, we’ve driven improvements in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma, changed national guidance on glaucoma care and helped generate new knowledge about the causes of glaucoma. Our research impact report tells the story in more detail, and introduces you to the researchers behind this exciting work.
Our research strategy
Our research activity is driven by our strategy, also known as a theory of change. This sets out what we fund and support, and the difference we hope this will make to people living with glaucoma. We want more research into glaucoma, more researchers working in this area, and for that research to have more of an impact.
AMRC Membership
Glaucoma UK is an introductory member of the Association of Medical Research Charities. The AMRC champions, supports and connects UK medical charities, helping us to fund the best research and improve health for everyone.
As introductory members of the AMRC, we are working towards their requirements, including having a published research strategy and working in line with their principles of expert review for funding decisions. We also support the AMRC’s position statement on animal research and patient and public involvement in research.
Our Clinical Advisory Panel
Our Clinical Advisory Panel (CAP) make recommendations to the Board of Trustees about which research to fund. The CAP is comprised of experts in glaucoma, including professional and patient representatives.
