Our first ever Research impact report
Enclosed with our latest edition of our Insight magazine, you will find a very special supplement – our first ever research impact report. Read on to learn more. This article was originally written by Joanna Hodgkinson, Head of Research.

It provides you with the highlights of the research we have supported and funded over the past 10 years, with your help. You can find out how our funding:
- led to the national guidance for glaucoma care changing
- enabled the first ever trial investigating a vitamin pill to protect the optic nerve, and
- supported the careers of promising researchers.
We have only been able to do this thanks to the generosity of our supporters, and we are so grateful to everyone who donates to Glaucoma UK to support our research activity.
Thank you. Your legacy will forever be a world where fewer people lose vision to glaucoma.
Proud though we are of our achievements, the report also sets out what more we need to do.
People are still losing vision to glaucoma and experiencing anxiety and distress as a result of their diagnosis. Eye research is under-funded, with only 1.2% of health research funding being dedicated to this vital topic.
We would be delighted if after reading this report you feel inspired to get more involved. For example:
