Sightline telephone befriending service
Sightline’s telephone-based befriending service is designed to reduce loneliness and isolation in the visually impaired community.
Regular phone-based befriending can be arranged at a convenient time for you. The service is staffed by Sightline’s amazing team of dedicated, friendly, trained volunteers; the majority of whom have close experience of sight loss. They provide much needed support and friendship.
Many of Sightline’s service users and volunteers are benefiting from the positive impact a telephone befriending relationship can offer. They match people based on common values and interests for telephone calls at an agreed day and time.
We have seen the same benefits to users of our own Buddy Scheme, which pairs people with glaucoma who have experienced or are experiencing the same treatments and surgeries.
The results of befriending can be very significant. Befriending often provides people with a new direction in life, opens doors to a range of activities and leads to increased self-esteem and self-confidence.
Sightline believes in the intrinsic value of befriending relationships and will provide the service for as long as people feel they want it.
If you think you might benefit from a telephone befriending relationship, drop them a line or visit their website to find out more.
The delivery of the befriending service is totally dependent upon Sightline’s amazing, but rather small, team of trained volunteers. They are always keen to speak to people who may like to volunteer; could you offer an hour a week and become one of their Sightline Superstars?
Head over to their website to read some wonderful Sightline Stories about how the telephone befriending has such a positive impact on peoples’ lives. How good would it feel to be part of that?
